.:. perishable body - eternal soul/spirit

Fran Woods

1 Cor 15:50

“…flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These perishable bodies of ours are not able to live forever.”

This body I have with its growing weakness, aches and pains will not be what inherits the Kingdom of God. This body can’t live forever, it has a “use by” date and after that it decays.

The essence of me, my spirit, my soul is what will live forever (already does live forever). My body needs to be discarded - it is too limiting. My joints ache, my eyes are blurry, I get tired so easily. When I die my body will begin to decay immediately. It is of the dust and to the dust it returns.

The earthly body must be transformed into a heavenly body (1 Cor 15:54) that will never die. I don’t have a clue how this will happen but it isn’t a matter of redeeming this old body but of a new body altogether - a body of a different substance that will never die. I take it that this new body won’t have aches and pains, won’t grow old, won’t have stiff joints, won’t catch the flu, won’t anything that bothers us here.

I hope I can fly!

Psalm 39:4-5

“Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away. My life is no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath.”
