.:. Gratitude

Fran Woods

Recently in my reading I've been challenged in respect to gratitude. I find it quite easy to grizzle and gripe about aches and pains in my body, and about stresses and strains in my work and in my interactions with people. God often cops it. The effect for me is a spiral down into seeing only the negative, into being critical and judgmental towards everything and everyone around me. Somehow I lose perspective, I can't see the positive, the good things that are all around me. It's hard to be thankful, to show any gratitude. Yet, that's what God knows I need to do (and be). 1 Thessalonians 5:16 says: "... give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." Phew! All circumstances? Yes, all! That's hard but God knows I need it. He knows we all need it. It's the only way for us to get God's perspective on the events of our lives and to be at peace.

God bless you as you ponder this.

"Gratitude is not only the memory but the homage of the heart rendered to God for His goodness." (Nathaniel P. Willis)

"Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world." (John Milton)
